What else to do in Eskişehir
Centered around the Porsuk River, a meandering emerald-green waterway dotted with gondolas, it's best known for its local delicacies like boza, a thick, creamy fermented drink with cinnamon, and a quaint historic district—a tightly wound maze of 19th-century homes, tea houses, and folk art shops. But amid this sleepy scene lies something surprising: The new Kengo Kuma —designed Odunpazari Modern Museum , which opened along with an accompanying room boutique hotel, the Omm Inn , last fall. Sat on a quiet street lined with shabby Ottoman houses, the contemporary art museum is a heady composition of geometric glass and interlocking timber blocks, showcasing a diverse mix of works by Turkish and global artists that has the Istanbul art scene pouring in via the 2. With thin government support for institutional art and the closing of many galleries after a few troubled years in Turkey, it's hard to overstate OMM's significance.
